Our team at Events by Emma can definitely attest that ‘love’ is surely in the air during the holiday season and even post holiday season. The number of calls and email inquiries from from newly engaged soon-to-be brides and grooms this time of year is proof enough.
According to TheKnot.com, more than three thirds of proposals take place during the holiday season, a time when newly engaged couples are already surrounded with family and friends to share the exciting news. In result, January is well-known as “Wedding Planning Season,” which explains why a majority of bridal shows take place shortly after the new year.
The Wonderful Wedding Show, taking place this weekend on January 18 to 19, 2014, at the RBC Convention Centre Winnipeg, includes over 300 booths and 100,000 square feet showcasing the newest wedding trends, fashion, and ideas. Attending the wedding show definitely has it’s perks, from getting serious planning done in a matter of a day, special discounts and deals from vendors, and the chance of winning exclusive prizes (e.g. our Events by Emma exclusive Dream Stage Give-away).
If you’re interested in truly taking advantage of the wedding show and all of what it has to offer, follow these ten must-do’s for attending a bridal show:
1. DO YOUR RESEARCH
Before even attending the show, check out the list of exhibitors attending the show and do some background research on those vendors that catch your eye. Read through their websites and take a good look through their photo galleries and past work. There are over 300 vendors, and chances are you most likely won’t have the time (or energy) to visit all of them. Narrow down your top potential vendors who you plan on visiting and stick to them.
2. MAKE AN ITENINARY AND CHECK-LIST
We know first-hand the key to a successful day is a detailed and organized itinerary. Plan your day in advance and set goals for yourself and your bridal party. There’s no harm in scheduling specified times you wish to see certain booths. Maybe the first hour you want to focus on dresses, where the second hour you want to shop around for cake quotes. The more you plan, the less you’ll feel overwhelmed.
3. PRE-REGISTER AND ARRIVE EARLY
Remember, you’re not the only bride that got engaged this holiday season! Purchase your tickets in advance and pre-register to take advantage of early entrance and avoid the long lines. You’ll also be able to meet with vendors and chat with them before the crowd comes along.
4. PREPARE CONTACT LABELS
Save a ton of time by preparing your own personal contact labels for service inquiry forms and contest ballots. Include you and your groom’s names, address, phone number, email address, and wedding date. Instead of having to pull out a pen every time, just stick one of your labels on their forms or ballots and you’re all set!
5. ASK A LOT OF QUESTIONS
The wedding show is a perfect opportunity to get as much information as you can to help you plan your big day. Take the time to meet with the experts and ask important questions regarding budget, decor ideas, and planning tips. Get all your answers answered by preparing a list of questions beforehand and have them readily available when visiting each booth.
6. TAKE NOTES
Be sure to bring a notepad and pen to write down all the useful tips and trends you’re picking up at the wedding show. You should make a list of all your new preferred vendors worth checking out after the show. If you’ve booked a couple of consultations, be sure to write yourself a quick reminder of the date, time and location. With so many different vendors and suppliers you’re visiting, you want to stay organized and on top of everything you learned. Also, don’t forget to bring a big bag, you’ll need them to carry all the promotional items and give-aways!
7. SHARE YOUR VISION
It doesn’t hurt to bring swatches of your event colours or photos of your dress and decor inspiration to share with the vendors. They’re all there to share with you how they can play a role to transform your wedding vision to reality. The more you have for them, the more they can share with you how they can make it all happen.
8. BRING YOUR FIANCÉ
As much fun as it is to spend the entire day with your maid of honour and bridal party planning your big day, it’s important to have your fiancé there, especially if you need to make a major wedding decision on the spot. Your husband-to-be may have questions or concerns that you may have not considered, and should have a say when planning out the big day, Remember, a wedding should represent both the bride and groom’s personalities and styles.
9. ENTER EVERYTHING
Wedding shows are well-known for their many contests and give-aways, so take advantage of them! You can save a pretty penny with a lot of the great prizes such as service gift-cards, honeymoon retreats and even an exclusive stage-decor package from Events by Emma (visit eventsbyemma.com for more information).
10. DRESS COMFY
Last but not least, dress comfortably! The wedding show is not the place to show off your favourite pair of stilettos, so pull out your most comfy pair of shoes and prepared to spend the day walking around and taking in as much as you can. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to leave your bulky jacket at home and dress a little bit lighter to avoid having to carry it around.
Good luck, and be sure to visit us this weekend at Booths 805 and 904!
